This is me

First things first, I should probably introduce myself… my name is Bex, and I am an Independent Celebrant

Weddings and Me go together like Chandler and Monica! I’ve been involved with planning the weddings of my three sisters, BFs and then my own a couple of years ago.

I realised I didn’t want an ‘off-the-shelf’ wedding but wanted to bring my own personality to it - tradition is great, but just not my style. I didn’t realise at that point that a celebrant wedding was an actual ‘thing’. 🤷🏻‍♀️  So I tweaked our wedding as much as I could but was still a bit restricted.

So here’s what you need to know about me.

Family is important to me. I’m the youngest of four sisters, so always had a captive audience. I’m “that” auntie (you know - more in common with the children than the parents) to 3 nephews and 5 nieces, and am very close to my parents.

At 14 I went to The BRT School to study Dance - if music is playing, you’ll always find me dancing.

I have pretty much always worked in entertainment.  I was a holiday rep (don’t judge!); a Butlin’s Redcoat (don’t think “cheese” - there’s more to me, I promise); and an Entertainments Officer on cruise ships (a sort of working gap year, seeing the world through a porthole).

When I came home, I knew I couldn’t hack the usual 9-5 so decided to get a job in TV and started at the bottom in TV as a runner (general dogsbody), and then worked up through the ranks on factual entertainment programmes (think Tattoo Fixers, Gogglebox etc), until I became a Producer.  I love interacting with people, problem solving, being creative and making things happen

During this time I was able to plan my own wedding to my now-husband, who I met at sea. He was a drummer in the ship’s band, and subsequently in a wedding band. Neither of us wanted conventional, but had never heard of ‘a Celebrant’, so decided to pull together our dream wedding as best we could at a civil wedding venue (more about our own special day can be found in my blog).  It was a fabulous day - the only downside being the limitations set by the registrar, which was quite impersonal, and got me thinking how I would do it differently.

Everyone who knows me recognises my absolute passion for all things wedding, down to the smallest detail. I just love LOVE! I also enjoy making people feel special and organising memorable celebrations (that absolutely MUST include cake). I really know wedding stuff plus my TV production experience means I know how to pull things together for maximum impact.  I knew I didn’t want to just concentrate on wedding planning (whilst I’m happy to give suggestions and guide you, this isn’t not my main focus). I want to be part of the celebration, not doing the admin!  Plus I didn’t want to be restricted to weddings - there is so much to celebrate in life.

So that’s when I decided to become a Celebrant - I’m so glad that I found out it was a “thing”.  Perfect for me, and I hope for you too.

If you’re considering a celebrant for your celebrations, be it a wedding, vow renewal or baby naming, let’s have a non obligation chat. And if you decide I’m your girl, lets meet up for cake and fizz and work out your perfect day
